This is the 4th iteration of the #mainframehugger luggage platform, inspired by the original StandupforBrompton platform from plywood. StandupforBrompton supplied me the U bolts and sleeve nuts for the last four years, which was very nice!. This fourth version is more universal than previous versions with two ways to attach it to your frame.
The differences with the fifth version is the shape of the four big corner cutouts and there's a dimension fault in the bottle boss holes. It's not safe to use the two holes in the middle as there's not enough material left to make a reliable connection to your bottle bosses. For use on a Brompton this will not be an issue at all and it looks the same to the eye. You save €10,- by buying this one instead of the Mark V . Just 7 platforms being made like this.
The main purpose of the #framehugger is to strap a narrow (dry)bag, case, box, tent or other narrow (maybe even long) stuff safe and secure to your Brompton.
I personally use it to bring small boxes to the post office, for multi-day cycling trips, transport gas bottles for welding and brazing to the supplier for a refill. One hand to the bottle and the other hand on the bar. Don't try this at home, but it can be done ;-)
Assembly instructions:
Start with sticking the rubber patch on the main frame, approximately 12 cm from the center of the hingeand put the platform right on top, 7.5 cm from the center of the hinge, add the bolts, secure the nuts evenly, check if the platform is tight and level and you're done! The idea is that the oval chamber/cutout on the underside of the platform should be right on top of the bend section of the main frame and positioned on the rubber patch so the paint of your Brompton doesn't get damaged.
See the pics for the ultimate position. You can play with it for like max 2 cm to either side.
